As 2020 comes to an end – and thank God it is coming to an end – I’ve been reflecting on this past year. What I’ve accomplished. What I haven’t accomplished. What I’ve spend my time on. What I’ve wasted time on. Which direction I’m going, and which direction brought me here. And you know what? 2020 is a blur to me! Anyone else out there relate to that?
So I’ve been thinking on this for the last two weeks. Just doing a little “self check in” on my goals, dreams, and passions and making sure that I’m balancing those out with my work, responsibilities, and commitments. And depending on what day you ask me, you’ll get a different answer. Some days I’ll tell you that I’m passionately living my best life, and on other days I’ll tell you that I didn’t once move from my chair in front of my computer working for 12 hours straight (not even my constant Apple Watch reminders got me to stand up and take a break). So I bounce back and forth trying to plan a course of action for 2021, but to do that, I feel like I need to rewind 2020 and catch up.
When I moved to Mexico, I desperately wanted a life full of adventure, sun, sand, and exploration. And, of course, I wanted to ferociously document that on my blog and my social media. But something happens here. It’s called LIFE. You see, I don’t write my blog or post on my social media to gain followers or fans, likes or loves, I post on my social media for me. I enjoy it. It makes me happy. I don’t care if anyone watches my YouTube or TikTok videos, I watch my YouTube and my TikTok videos and it makes me smile. I don’t care if anyone reads my blog, I read my blog and it helps me count my blessings and feel accomplished. People recommend for you to write in a Gratitude Journal each day, well, my blog is sort of my Gratitude Journal. I look back and I’m grateful for the experiences in my life. My blog and social media is a way for me to keep my life on track, in black and white. Well, actually, in color, but you know what I mean.
I haven’t missed my mark, I just haven’t documented it
So when doing my self check in and I pull up my blog and realize that the last “real” thing I wrote was October 2018, I start to feel like I’ve missed my mark. That there was something I should have been doing and haven’t done. But then I realize I haven’t missed my mark – I’ve done it, I’ve been busy living my life – but I just haven’t documented it.
And that brings me back to the rewind on 2020. It has been such a crazy, hectic, unprecedented year, and there is so much I want to share with you because my blog isn’t really a “travel blog”, it’s suppose to be about my experience here. My transition from the live I lived before, to the life I’m living now. And it’s meant to inspire others that might want to make the same changes in their lives. (I mean, who doesn’t dream of packing up and moving to live on a beach? – or at least, if you are reading this then there is a pretty good chance that it’s a dream of yours too)
So I’ve worked on my blog and updated a lot of things over the last two weeks and I’m super excited to get back on track.
First, I’m going to write a series of rewind articles that go back and document all of the crazy things that have happened in 2020. Updates to the CJ Chronicles and what life was like his first year in an International School, up to his current crazy remote learning experiences; Top things to do in Riviera Maya, Weekend Itineraries, and Beach Discoveries; Quarantined in Paradise as well as Working in Paradise and Keeping up with Exercise and Healthy Eating in Paradise; and Much, MUCH MORE.
Second, I’ve started a few new projects on my blog. One is a collection of photography from around Riviera Maya. The second one is a new series called “Getting Ready with theJenVenture” which will be all about style, fashion, and how to dress in Riviera Maya. And the third one is another new series called “A day in the Life of theJenVenture” which will be all about everyday life in and around Riviera Maya.
And third, I have tons of new ideas, tips, and tricks for you that I’ll be writing about. And I’m holding myself accountable to keeping it up to date!
I’m super excited about these new things, and I hope you’ll enjoy following along!
